PLDT unit acquires BPO firm in India

MANILA, Philippines – SPi Global, a wholly owned subsidiary of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), on Friday night announced it has acquired a business process outsourcing (BPO) firm in India.

President and Chief Executive Officer Maulik Parekh said his company acquired Laserwords Private Ltd. from India’s Murugappa Group. The acquisition price was not disclosed. Avendus Capital Inc. served as the exclusive financial advisor to SPi Global for this transaction.

A good team leader can turn an average team into top performers. Here are a few tips on how to get more out of your team leaders.

1. Take time to get to know your team leaders

Take time out of the week to have short one-to-one talks with your team leaders to really get under their skin and understand their individual preferences, motivations, strengths and weaknesses. Use this information to put them in charge of clients that complement their skills and personality.

2. Give team leaders ownership of projects

Give your team leaders ownership of mini projects within the department to help drive productivity, continuously challenge them and develop their skill-sets, but don’t forget to give them the full picture so they know what they are part of.

MANILA, Philippines – Less regular mealtimes and high consumption of caffeinated drinks and fast food characterize the diet of workers in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, a study by the University of the Philippines (UP) Population Institute revealed.

The UP Population Institute study, entitled Lifestyle and Reproductive Health Issues of Young Professionals in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, focused on the profile and lifestyle of young workers in the call center and non-call center industries in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

Risky sex higher among call center agents: study

MANILA, Philippines – Although risky sexual behavior is high among professionals in general, a study showed that the levels are slightly higher among call center workers compared to those who work for different industries.

The study, conducted by the University of the Philippines (UP) Population Institute, focused on the lifestyle and reproductive health concerns of call center and non-call center workers in Metro Manila and Metro Cebu, 2 areas in the country said to have the highest number of call centers.
